LipoEase Body Slimming Laser: Can it improve your trouble spots?

Want to lose inches from your trouble spots without surgery? Come on, who doesn’t? And now it seems you can with LipoEase, a new non-invasive body-contouring procedure that uses low-level lasers to zap fat cells from the outside, letting your body's natural cleansing process take over to whisk them away over time.

What is LipoEase?

The low-level LipoEase laser energy stimulates the fat cell, liquefying the fat within. This liquid fat moves from inside the cell to outside, where it loiters in the interstitial space (or tissue space) until your lymphatic system gets rid of it.

What are the results?

Results are typically seen after about six 40-minute treatments spanning two weeks.

The expected results? Inches disappear from the waist, hips and thighs — the prime trouble spots where LipoEase reportedly works well. It can be used on body parts with localized fat deposits that are stubbornly resistant to diet and exercise. The technique works well for subcutaneous fat, the fat just below the skin.

In a study comparing LipoEase to a placebo, those treated with the LipoEase body slimming laser lost more than 3.6 inches from their waist, hips and thighs, while the placebo group that got a ''dummy'' treatment lost a mere half-inch.

How might that translate to dress or pant sizes?

One magazine writer who underwent the procedure and gave her first-person account says she went from a size 8 to a 6, and the before-and-after photos show a much firmer body shape.

Am I a good candidate?

If you have high amounts of visceral (deep) fat, you may not be a good candidate for LipoEase. Discuss your candidacy with your physician.

How do you prepare for LipoEase Body-Slimming Laser Treatment?

Talk to a consultant for the importance of committing to the protocol during the two weeks of treatment. This includes staying well hydrated by drinking eight to 10 glasses of water a day, following a healthy diet, exercising (walking at least 30 minutes a day) and not drinking alcohol or caffeine. Both caffeine and alcohol are thought to interfere with the fat removal process.

How does it work?

The LIPOEASE® protocol utilizes the Erchonia® Laser Scanner, which is the safest and most researched low level laser in the world. LIPOEASE® is also FDA approved for laser assisted liposuction. Find out how it works:

Voluminous adipose tissue can appear when fatty material is present, and this, in turn, can bring about enlarged subcutaneous fat regions. Because subcutaneous fat is close to the skin's surface, laser emulsification can have a dramatic effect on them. The collapse of adipose arrangements has been noted after laser therapy, reducing their volume and providing effective body slimming results. When the fat cells have reduced the body naturally excretes the fat over time giving the patient proven results after around six treatments over two weeks. This occurs during the body’s normal detoxification process.

What happens during treatment?

During the treatment session, you lie in a dark room. The laser is positioned over the body area to be treated. The laser light is pointed to the front of your body for 20 minutes and then for another 20 minutes to the back side.

You won't feel heat, but there may be a mild sensation of warmth on your skin during the procedure. No anesthesia is needed, so you can resume normal activities immediately following each treatment session. You should not experience any swelling or other discomfort.

How many treatments do I need?

A LipoEase "package" includes six treatments, with a treatment every other day. Each session takes 40 minutes. Do not wait more than 72 hours between treatments or the fat on its way out may take up residence again.

Are there any risks?

Overall, no risks have been found in healthy users, according to the manufacturer. That said, dissatisfaction with the cosmetic results achieved with LipoEase may occur. Liposuction removes the fat cells from the body, but LipoEase only releases them, which is why weight gain can reverse the effects of LipoEase treatment.

Is there any downtime?

Unlike other lipo and body slimming procedures, LIPOEASE® allows patients to continue daily activities without interruptions from surgery, pain, wounds, bruises, or garments.
